Terms of service
The short version. Joining the waitlist costs nothing and commits you to nothing. There is nothing on sale yet.
Revnote reads what your car publishes and interprets it. That is information, not a professional diagnosis. It does not replace a mechanic looking at your car, and its horsepower figures are estimates rather than measurements.
How you drive is on you. Nothing in the app is a reason to drive somewhere you should not, or faster than you are allowed to.
What these terms cover
They cover your use of revnote.app and the Revnote waitlist. By using this site or joining the list, you accept them.
They do not cover buying anything, because nothing is for sale yet. When there is hardware to buy there will be sale terms covering payment, shipping, returns and warranty, and when the app ships it will have its own terms shown to you before you use it. Neither of those documents exists today, and this one does not pretend to stand in for them.
The waitlist
- Joining is free and creates no obligation on either side. It is not an order, not a deposit, and not a reservation.
- The price we mention, $99 to $129 CAD, is our current intention. It is not an offer, and it can change before anything goes on sale.
- Features described on this site are what we are building, not a contractual specification. Some may change. Some may not survive.
- We may delay the product, change it substantially, or stop work on it altogether. If that happens we will tell the list rather than going quiet.
- We will email you when there is something to buy, and occasionally before then if there is genuine news. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe.
- Use an email address you control. Do not sign up on someone else's behalf.
What Revnote is, and what it is not
This is the section worth reading twice.
Revnote reads data your car already publishes through its diagnostic port, and interprets it. Interpretation means inference drawn from a limited set of signals, by software, with no eyes, no hands and no ability to hear the noise you are worried about.
- Revnote is not a professional mechanical diagnosis and is not a substitute for an inspection by a qualified mechanic.
- An insight that says nothing is wrong is not a clean bill of health. Plenty of faults never reach the diagnostic port at all: worn brakes, tyres, suspension, corrosion, fluid leaks, and most things you would find on a lift.
- Explanations of fault codes describe common causes in vehicles generally. They are not a finding about the specific cause in your car.
- Do not use Revnote as the only basis for a decision about whether a vehicle is safe to drive, for a repair you are about to pay for, or for buying or selling a car. Ask a mechanic. That is what they are for.
- If a warning light comes on, or the car behaves in a way that worries you, treat that as more authoritative than anything the app says.
Performance and dyno figures are estimates
The horsepower and torque curves Revnote produces are calculated, not measured. The app derives them from engine speed and road speed over time, together with figures for the vehicle's mass, gearing and drivetrain loss and a model of aerodynamic drag. If those inputs are wrong for your car, or the road is not flat, or there is a headwind, the output is wrong with them.
- These figures are not equivalent to a chassis dyno reading, and are not calibrated or certified by anyone.
- They are not suitable as evidence of a vehicle's output in a sale, a dispute, a competition entry, a warranty claim or an insurance matter.
- Their honest use is comparison against your own earlier runs in matched conditions.
- Fuel consumption and cost figures are estimates too, derived from sensor data and the fuel price you enter.
- Timing results are reported with an uncertainty range, and that range is part of the result rather than a decoration on it.
Driving is your responsibility
Recording performance runs means accelerating hard. We want to be direct about what that does and does not authorise.
- Obey the speed limit and every other traffic law wherever you are. Nothing in this app is permission to do otherwise.
- Full-throttle runs and dyno pulls belong on a closed course or private road where you have permission, not on a public street.
- Do not handle your phone while driving. Set up before you move, and let the app record on its own, which is how it is designed to work.
- You are responsible for your driving, your passengers, your vehicle and everyone else on the road.
- We are not responsible for tickets, licence penalties, collisions, mechanical damage or any other consequence of how a vehicle is driven while using Revnote.
The AI answers
The assistant is a language model writing about your vehicle's recorded data. Models of this kind can be wrong, can be incomplete, and can be wrong in a confident and fluent voice. Treat an answer as a starting point for a conversation with a mechanic, not as the end of one. Verify anything before you spend money or make a decision that affects safety.
Your vehicle and the adapter
The adapter connects to the standard diagnostic port fitted to your car. Reading data through that port is a passive operation, but you are responsible for using the hardware as instructed and for deciding whether to leave it connected.
Leaving any adapter plugged into a vehicle that will sit unused for a long period can drain the battery. Unplug it. Check as well whether connecting a device to the diagnostic port affects any warranty, lease or fleet agreement covering your vehicle. That is between you and whoever wrote that agreement.
Using this website
Do not attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to this site, and do not submit an email address that is not yours. That is the whole list.
Ownership
The Revnote name, the site, its text and the software are ours. The data your car produces and your app records is yours, and we do not claim ownership of it.
No warranty, and limits on liability
This website and the waitlist are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise the site will be available without interruption or free of errors.
To the extent the law allows, Revnote is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of this site or the waitlist, and our total liability for anything connected to them is limited to what you have paid us, which today is nothing.
Consumer protection law in Quebec, and elsewhere in Canada, gives you rights that a document like this cannot sign away. Where anything above conflicts with those rights, those rights win and the rest of this section still stands.
Changes to these terms
We will update this page as the product moves from a waitlist to a real thing you can buy. The date at the top shows the last revision. If a change matters to people already on the list, we will email them.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Quebec have jurisdiction, without affecting any right you have to bring a claim where you live.
